No howling hag countercharm

Grease the palm with goodly harm
Redemption is a whore

Bread and butter clemency
Relentless ball and chain
The urgency of ecstasy
Awakening the pain

From Temperance to Prohibition
Penitence keeps score
Misery is the gratuity
She squanders on the poor

Asylum for the malcontent
Plagued by fang and thorn
Ardent breathless sufferance
Asunder we are torn
