RAINBOW'S END

by Nevada Kerr

If I look fearless behind this mask
Flushed and rosy, don't dare to ask
I did my time for the Daylight God
When the blue sky shines
I can see the fraud

On that day when the horizon fades
Should I suspend my doubt
Or just close the shades
In a flash you burn and I'm adrift
The change I earned was a fleeting gift

I went along when the time seemed right
How could I be wrong, my soul took flight
Is the air I breath a forlorn hope
I'm hanging in the breeze without a rope

Why ponder death, I'm only dust
A bubbly powder boasting trust
Is it all presumption when I feel assured
Or does a vain mirage wait behind that door
