She lives on the surface
Where it's safe and she can hide
On the inside she's an accident
A casualty of pride

On the outside it's a thin veneer
That covers up the loss
She needs to keep it so sincere
With a lover she can toss

An extra in the movie
An accomplice to the crime
He never has to win her heart
There isn't any time

Short and sweet without the grief
It's over in a flash
But some things lie beyond his reach
Even when he's paying cash
